Well my personal favourite for swapping views in and out is the one that NeXT has in the MiniExamples SwitchView.
It works, has no restrictions, and comes with source.
Everything can be set up in IB, and it can be tested entirely within IB.
Certainly there are better implementations available, but it does work. I did like one of the other objects I've seen that does this, but it got the axe because of the licensing agreement that it came with (GNU).
